Millions of people around the world are trying to lose weight on any given day. They employ a wide variety of means in order to see success with their weight loss efforts and in many cases, impatience plays into the mix. If there is one thing that is of interest to more dieters than any other, it is losing weight fast but is that truly an unobtainable goal?
It’s important to define what would be considered fast as far as weight loss is concerned. Most diet experts make the general statement that weight loss of 1 or 2 pounds every week is considered to be healthy and any faster weight loss is going to result in problems. That may be fine if an individual is able to stay on the program for 6 weeks or more because they would begin to see some differences in the mirror. Once the physical changes occur, self-motivation goes to an entirely new level. When an individual is on a fast weight loss program, they get the motivation much sooner and may even see a greater degree of success.
Some people are also are interested in losing weight fast, not because they want to make a permanent change to their life but rather, it is because they have a short-term goal. It may be trying to fit into a wedding dress or perhaps losing some weight before the high school reunion. In those particular cases, it is not the long-term motivation that is desired but rather, it is a means to an end.
Fortunately, there are methods for losing weight quickly and they are not only healthy, they are easy to maintain. An example of this is the ketogenic diet, often known by names such as Atkins, South Beach or Paleo. Most people who start a ketogenic diet experience accelerated weight loss, with as much as 10 pounds dropping in the first week! Of course, some of it is water weight at first but sticking to the ketogenic diet could easily cause a loss of 3 or 4 pounds of body fat on an ongoing basis.
The ketogenic diet works by restricting carbohydrates. The primary foods that are consumed on a ketogenic diet are meat, fish, healthy fats and some dairy. Any carbohydrate is severely restricted or removed completely from the diet. As a result, the body will use up its glycogen stores very quickly and start burning fat for fuel. This takes a few days of sticking to the diet to accomplish, but once it begins, the body will continue to burn fat, 24 hours a day.
As long as the dieter sticks to the ketogenic diet, the weight loss will continue. Any deviation by eating too many carbohydrates will cause the body to start burning glycogen for a few days.
This weight loss diet can work quickly and effectively. It is also full of foods that are satisfying, delicious and readily available. When fast weight loss is desired, the ketogenic diet can produce results.
